CCA fair preparations in Dec
Sorry for the long lapse in updates. Please be prepared to return to the school for Sec 1 CCA fair preparations any time after 13th December. Be prepared to return to the school in the morning from 9am to 1pm, for AT LEAST 2 days. The exact dates will be confirmed again later. I apologize for the inconvenience that might have been caused to some of you, but this is because the YOs would not be around until after 13th December, thus the need to recall you all back after this date. We will try to confirm the exact dates as soon as possible. Meanwhile, make sure you finish all your holiday homework in advance, so that you will not be affected by the last-minute notifications to return. Take note that it is COMPULSORY to return to the school for these 2 sessions. Depending on how much you all can finish within these 2 days, there might be a 3rd session, so as far as possible work together to complete all your preparations. The NCOs will brief you all after you’ve returned on the things to be done. Meanwhile, the NCOs have spilt you all into various groups: Banner: Yee Chiu (I/C), Rebecca, Gisele, Jhoann Flyer: Hui Ting (I/C), Ivanna, Kalaivani, Cheryl Booth No.1: Thivya (I/C), Jaypriyah, Mei Qi, Qian Yu Booth No. 2: Ahbilasha (I/C), Li Hoon, Shao Min, Samantha By the way, CCA day will be on 16th January, Saturday. Each CCA will be allocated a class to share with the Sec 1s, so it should be in a classroom environment. Therefore, feel free to work within your own groups first and perhaps meet up online, to brainstorm on ideas that would promote Red Cross Youth as an attractive CCA. *** By the way, I’m afraid all the cadets would need to retake their Outdoor Activities (OA) Bronze accreditation, as the results cannot be used anymore after such a long time (the camp was in March). Those who have attended the hike will still keep their National Heritage Trail badge, but similarly would need to retake the OA accreditation again. *** Pass the word around! Similarly acknowledge on the tagboard if you have read this. You will not be excused from returning to school or retaking the OA accreditation even if you do not acknowledge, as this shows that you didn’t read the notices posted up when you are supposed to. Red Cross essay
As of this morning (Tuesday, 24th November 10.30am) I have received the essays from the following cadets thus far: Yee Chiu Ivanna Rebecca Li Hoon Gisele Cheryl Thiviya Only Huiting has asked for an extension of deadline, whereas the other cadets have not explained why they are submitting late. The remaining cadets who have yet to submit their essays are to do so immediately, together with an explanation of why the essays are being submitted late, as well as explain why you did not ask for an extension of deadline earlier on. For cadets who submitted later than Sunday 8pm (you know who you are), I hope you would correct your attitude. You should have explained to me BEFORE THE DEADLINE why you can only submit your essay later than the deadline (i.e. the explanation should have reached me either via email or sms before Sunday 8pm), instead of waiting till the deadline is over before you explained yourself and submitted your essay at the same time. Instructions have been made very clear. Please follow them. Cadets who are excused from last Wednesday’s lesson need not do the essay. *** I apologize for having taken a long time to post your OA results. Miss Chew is currently still trying to find the soft copies, so please do check back here for more updates. For those who do not have my handphone number, please find out from those who have during the holidays. This will facilitate communication between the instructors and the cadets. updated evac bronze results
As previously promised earlier in the day, the results for the entire evacuation accreditation (inclusive of last Friday’s session) will be posted up. The results here will vary slightly with last Friday’s results (announced in the previous post), as there’s a change in the conversion of percentages, but it should be similar. Jaypriyah – 75 Mei Qi – 87 Jhoann – 85 Thiviya – 83 Ahbilasha – 84 Samantha – 85.5 Rebecca – 87 Shao Min – 86 Gisele – 88 Yee Chiu – 85 Qian Yu – 80.5 Ivanna – 82.5 Cheryl – 79.5 Li Hoon – 86 Kalaivani – 83 Hui Ting – 87 Guess who’s the top scorer? Good news is everyone passed, however let’s not be complacent. This accreditation has been rather straightforward, yet even then a number of you faltered at Radio Communications (you know who you are), plus this is only the BRONZE accreditation, so please keep up the effort and continue to improve. Everyone should have been able to score above 85, so for those who had less than that, please take note of how dangerously close you are to the passing mark (75). Not trying to discourage any of you (I recognize the effort you all put in), but I just don’t want you all to think that other accreditations would be as smooth-sailing as this one. Reflect upon the mistakes you made, and make sure you don’t commit them again. *** Now…I shall type out the question for your 250-word essay again, in case some of you have forgotten. “Why is it that we, as Red Cross, have to be MORE disciplined than other Uniformed Groups?” Format: Microsoft Word Font: Times New Roman, size 12 Deadline: 8pm, Sunday (22nd November 2009) Title of email: Red Cross essay *question to be typed on top of essay, then leave a line, followed by your essay itself* NO grammatical errors, NO spelling mistakes, NO SINGLISH please! Don’t cram everything into one paragraph. Appropriate paragraphing to be applied! Most importantly of all, take note of the word “MORE”. Why must we be MORE disciplined than other Uniformed Groups (UGs)? Why can’t we just be AS disciplined AS other UGs? Some pointers you might want to answer: Why must we shout louder than the rest? Why must we move faster than the rest? Why must we tuck in our shirts? Why are we discouraged from dragging our feet, dragging the chair etc? Email to my email account: yuanhao8@hotmail.com. Remember that even if you are unable to submit, you still have to email me an explanation on why you have to submit late, and tell me the exact date and time you will submit the essay by. The only people excused from this exercise are Ahbilasha, Mei Qi, Jhoann and Samantha, as they have not been through today’s lesson and are involved in a separate camp. *** I know this is a really long post. Details on the dates to return to the school for preparation for CCA fair next year will be posted at a later date. Please do keep checking back this blog. I’ll discuss things with Miss Chew and get back to all of you via this blog again. Please acknowledge if you have read this post by TAGGING on the tagboard. Thanks. Best regards, VI Yuan Hao |
